Oh, wow, it’s been a whole year! A whole year since we have started this amazing journey of becoming friends with as many Sauder students as possible =). We’ve done everything we could possibly do this year. In the end, we managed to pull off an amazing event, Update micro-conference. Yet, there is no reason to think that our work here is over, as we still have a massive pile of ideas and plans to bring to life starting next September!
We’re on air!
It all started with an idea that our president, Teresa Wang, came up with in 2009. She realized the importance of social media, high-tech startups and how they influence the business world and everyday lives of everyone. She also saw a great gap between what universities teach and what is happening in the real world. So, after finding another 7 individuals ready to take on this risky enterprise, hours of filling out applications with AMS and CUS, UBC e-Business Club was born.
Unfortunately, it is no easy job to build a new club from scratch, but our exec. team did their best and ended the year on a high note. We’re also unbelievably grateful to the first 25 students who dived into the unknown by becoming our members. Furthermore, we are thankful to everyone who has supported us: from teachers to friends, from other clubs’ execs to career services representatives. Thank you so much!
Updated!
Our coolest event by far, Update micro-conference was held on March 16th, and we can say that, without a doubt, it was a blast! Thanks to everyone for coming and special thanks to our speakers, Brian Wong, Theodora Lamb and Ann Stone.
To help you relive the experience or just see what the whole thing was about, we’ve uploaded quite a few things on the web. Here’s a list:
- Many pictures on Flickr
- Brian Wong’s speech on YouTube. In. Three. Parts.
- Theo’s speech also in video format
- Mike Abasov’s speech + his keynote on SlideShare
Again, thanks for coming (hope you enjoyed the food too), and we’ll see you at many other awesome events next year!
Heading for The Future
The year is over, and many of us are graduating. We will miss Teresa, Hong, Lisa, Shirley and Lana as they are moving into the real life, ready to make some noise. On the other hand, we promise to make them proud with how the club will be doing.
Mike Abasov
As of today, Mike Abasov, almost 3rd year marketing student at Sauder, has officially become the club’s new president and taken on the whole variety of painful responsibilities. So we can only wish him good luck and watch what he is going to do with the organization.
“Sure, e-Business is a very wide term, yet it has transformed my life in so many ways and has given me opportunities I’d though were impossible to achieve at my age. I truly believe that this incredible environment that doesn’t discriminate by age or anything else is one of the best things that has ever happend to humanity (alongside with gummy bears), and I am hoping to share this vision with my classmates,” — Mike
But nobody can do this alone, so for those of you who don’t know it yet, the following section of this post may be quite interesting.
We Are Recruiting
Yes, we are. We have already found a few executives for the next year (stay tuned for the introductions later in April), but we are still looking for a few more. All information about positions is available on this website, and you can, of course, apply online. If you’re passionate about what we do and want to be a part of our movement, join us, and we promise you a ride like no other!
Meanwhile, our activities will be less visible for the summer as we will be planning some rock-star events. However, we will keep posting tips, articles and update on this blog, Twitter at @ebizubc, and Facebook. See you in September!
